Bet You She Rocks makes winning debut

Exciting debut from our nice filly from the Hawkes yard Bet You She Rocks at Sale has started the new year off with a bang! After being nominated for a couple of races, Sale was picked out for her with the big spacious track and what seemed to be an easier assignment. With Dean Holland on top the filly jumped like a rocket and sat outside the lead before taking over after straightening up and never looked in danger really extending over the final furlong with Holland posing for the photo on the line. A lovely filly at the sales she immediately caught our eye and the breeding spoke for itself. By Fastnet Rock out of unraced Zabeel mare Betty Blockbuster there was everything to like about her! The Fastnet Rock over Zabeel mares have a great record with 73% winners to runners inc multiple Group 1 winners. Keep an eye on this nice filly as the stable, rider & myself have some nice plans in store for her! Grey Mustang makes it two in a row!

Australian Thoroughbreds first syndication Grey Mustang (Hold That Tiger x Shirbelle) has now made it two in a row, adding a metro city win to his credit after a comfortable mid week win the start before. Looking at a nice record now of 14 starts for 3 wins and a couple of placings and already over 30k in winnings, his record with a bit of luck could read better! A slow maturer and a bit wild at times it is very pleasing to see Grey Mustang finally putting it together.

He has come back this preparation super, first up Balaklava Cup Day being very well supported 20/1 into 9/1 he got back as usual and tried to weave a passage through really hitting the line strong running fourth to the talented La Poupee. Second up he opened equal fav on the back of his first up performance but blew out in the market in a reasonably strong field. After a superb ride from Paul Gatt, Grey Mustang got out of his awkward spot on the rails and worked into the race on the turn and went bang straight passed them extending for a good couple of length win! Trainer Richard Jolly decided to then back him up 10 days later getting his chance in town, Paul Gatt stuck with him and another super ride from one of the states leading jockeys, Gatt slipped up the fence went around one horse (the tiring leader) and skipped clear to be challenged late but really fought strong to the line holding out the late finishers to win by a head!

We have a few options now for the in form gelding and with the hope he can step up in trip which on his past couple of runs he looks ready for a mile. Trainer Richard Jolly has suggested the Grey’s Only Race on Oaks Day at Flemington as one of his options. A very exciting proposition for his owners! Keep an eye out for him as he is continually improving. I hope the other owners are enjoying the ride as much as I am!

Exciting times ahead

3yo filly – Carmen Over Baby had her first race prep and done a sensational job going to the paddock with a record of 6:0-2-1 and her worst result was sixth on debut having no luck. Last start being beaten in a three way photo, jockey Craig Newitt was full of praise for her saying she is a beautiful filly who does most things right, will certainly get out to a trip and should have no trouble cracking her duck next prep. Great job from everyone at Redgum Racing!

4yo gelding and enigma Out Of The Fire has enjoyed a change in training routine and re payed us all in spades with a cracking prep which is still going! His overall record looking more like the horse he is reads 16-3-1-4 with all three wins arriving this prep including a metro race at Mornington, where he has won two of his three. Only bad run this time in was a lackluster seventh. Three wins, a second, a third, two fourths, a fifth, and a seventh owners are hoping this prep last for ever! Likely assignment for him is Cranbourne the 11th in a Benchmark72 1200m GOODLUCK owners!

3yo gelding Grey Mustang also had a great prep last time in and will be back in work next week! He graduated his maiden with a super win and was then thrown in the deep end and given a crack at the Port Adelaide Guineas where he was at the tail over racing and never gave himself a chance until he loomed up on the turn then knocked up. Sent back to the provincials he went super and maybe should have won after pilot error and found himself in the stewards report finding trouble a few times in the straight. Given he looked good he was once again given another chance at black type glory in the Adelaide Guineas where ice man Steven Arnold got him to settle super but the tempo was not looking good from the tail as they were walking and the poor bloke couldn’t get warm. Arnold gave him a nice wrap and did say he has a nice future. Look for him in 1400m and beyond this prep. GOOD LUCK owners!

2yo filly Bet You She Rocks has finished pre training and now in the Melbourne stables of the Hawkes family. Wayne Hawkes has been very happy with her all along. Having the breeding (Fastnet Rock / Betty Blockbuster [Zabeel]) you would think she has every chance to blossom! Can not wait to for her debut, nothing better than an un raced filly with exceptional breeding, sky is the limit!! GOOD LUCK owners!

2yo filly Famechon Baroness is back in the Freedman stable at Markdel ready to commence pre training after having a couple of jump outs last prep before going shin sore. She showed enough last time in that a bit of bulk and this girl could have a bright future with a reinvigorated stable! GOOD LUCK owners!

2yo gelding Emergency Ward is back in the Freedman stables at Markdel also. After a nice long break this guy looks like a prized fighter! With any luck we will see him step out and show something special! GOOD LUCK owners!

1yo colt (Bel Esprit / Jolly’s Folly) is being broken in and all reports from the breaker are BRILLIANT. A big strong 2yo type, this colt will more than likely need to be gelded at some stage due to his size, can’t wait for when this one hits the ground running! **Shares still available. Trained in VIC by John McArdle.

1yo gelding (Purrealist / Our Indian Rose) really happy with this one. Broken in a treat, spent a week in the stable, done everything right so far. Currently in the paddock could see him in work about 4-6 weeks.

1yo colt (Shinzig / Wavishing) currently being broken in. All reports are great! Everything he does he takes in his stride and really improves every day. The stallion has done a crackerjack job with his first crop up and running, anticipation for his next crop are getting high. **Shares still available. Trained in TAS by Michael Voss.

Recent purchase at Gold Coast yearling sale in conjunction with John Hyam Racing in South Australia, we will be offering a colt by Fastnet Rock from Life Is Beautiful. More information to follow soon.

Out Of The Fire gets a metro win!

What a preparation this guy has had!! With NINE runs in and being trained in a little bit of a different way, this bloke really has found his feet. His NINE runs this time in has yielded owners THREE 1st, ONE 2nd, ONE 3rd, TWO 4th, ONE 5th and just the once was out of the money when ridden upside down. Credit to trainer John McArdle and all his team at Redgum Racing they really have turned this horse around. After his first prep we all knew he had ability and could destroy them if he wanted to, but having a bit of a mind of his own decided to be a nuisance a few times. As most jockeys who have ridden him have remarked, he is his own worst enemy! Mondays win at Mornington was a METRO race and he is now a city winner! I always thought he would get there one day! With a bunch of happy owners on track for the win, the beer was flowing in the owners room after the race. As John said in his post race interview, it was most certainly a 12/10 ride from jockey Dwayne Dunn! Dwayne was warned pre-race about his habits and really to his credit rolled with the punches and not everything went his way but still managed to rate him perfectly and even looked like he may get further. Out Of The Fire actually broke a couple of hoodoos winning his first on a HEAVY track and his first over 1200m. As always he will go back to the farm for his pampering and we will pick out his next suitable assignment. CONGRATULATIONS to owners & THANKS to Redgum Racing!

Grey Mustang gets the job done

Our first purchase for syndication was Grey Mustang. So excited with him given to Richard Jolly to train now we get to see our excitement at the track and in the winners circle. Last Wednesday seen Grey Mustang at just his 8th start get the job done! After trialing well and going to the track fit and ready first up he found some trouble and got treated like a pinball. Second up jockey Chad Lever see trouble ahead and dropped him out to the tail where he got to the outside and hit the line solid just missing second in a photo. Another super ride from Lever seen Grey Mustang win and win well over the 1500m third up. Congratulations to owners he has now been nominated for the Port Adelaide Guineas on Saturday 14 April a LISTED race making him Australian Thoroughbred first black type runner! Pending his performance in the Guineas may see him progress to the SA Derby. Good luck owners and we look like we have a nice galloper on our hands.

Big week for AustBreds

We have a big week coming up with all three of our syndicated horses that are racing look to have assignments.

GREY MUSTANG our first syndication lines up Wednesday after having no luck and being hampered pretty badly first up. Race 2 at Balaklava with Chad Lever on board we hope for some redemption from the grey boy this time. This should be his preparation.

Thursday we see filly CARMEN OVER BABY having a look at Ballarat at just her second start. Credit to a great bunch of patience owners in her that took the advise of trainer John McArdle and have given her plenty of time and another one having no luck last start and still managed to run sixth beaten only 3.5l which was a great effort first start and everyone was very happy with Ibrahim Gundogdo’s ride and we are happy to have him retain the ride. A couple of handy horses in the race but we expect her to run a honest race.

Australian Thoroughbreds have a day off Friday but it is still a big day for Corinna and I who have shares in Waltzes who looks ready for the sprint at Moonee Valley bypassing Albury and the Flat Knacker -again. King Diamond on target for the Albury Cup so long as its not a bog track. No reason both horses cant be competitive in their respected races.

Pakenham Cup day on Sunday where we will see our little champion OUT OF THE FIRE hit the track running and hopefully continue on with his super prep. Trainer John McArdle really has done a super job with this guy who looked to be an enigma but with a new training schedule he really has found another gear. He seems to like Dan Nikolic so we will be gunning to keep Dan on as much as possible.

Should also see our Haradasun filly hitting the track within a couple of weeks. Another trial and she should be ready. She has been improving every day and coming along great! She should have a name next week.

With EMERGENCY WARD and our Fastnet Rock filly (Should have a name real soon) both in the paddock both are expected to make a debut as 2yos and both horses trainer have nice opinions of their respective horse.

With some well bred yearlings on offer and a few horses on the track it really is exciting times for us at Australian Thoroughbreds and we invite you to join in on the fun. Out Of The Fire salutes AGAIN at Ararat

OUT OF THE FIRE replicated his Mornington win with another dominant front running ride at Ararat with jockey Michael Walker in the saddle. After jumping from barrier 8/10 in the Class1 he worked his way to the front and never once looked in any doubt! Now we will look for another suitable race for him to continue on his winning way. Werribee 31/03/2012 looks like his target 1100m 0-68 rating race. Lets hope the big boy is on top of his game and has that winning feeling again! Good luck to all owners! FOUR NEW COLTS

Australian Thoroughbreds are proud to announce our purchases this year for syndication. We see one of our founding trainers and all round nice guy John McArdle of Redgum Racing return to find another potential star with us. We also see the resurgence of our favorite trainer Peter Macdonald who trained our very first winner. Along with what we already know about these two stables we provide an opportunity in some cracking stock! I personally are happy to announce a couple of new trainers to our ranks. Firstly we add another Hall of Fame trainer to our list in David Hayes and Lindsay Park Racing. David is a champion trainer and we all know of his accomplishments locally and over seas. Very good mate of mine Michael Voss is our favorite Tasmanian and in his short time training has shown all the poise and composure of a veteran.

Bel Esprit / Jolly’s Folly colt

John trains the full brother to this colt an unraced 2yo that has shown already so much in his time in the stable that John was not leaving the sales without this colt. He is a strong forward type that looks like he will go early. He reminded John of the brother and we have good expectations of this colt.

Peter Macdonald

Purrealist / Our Indian Rose colt

This colt was on our list as one of the top colts in the sale. We were very surprised to secure this colt at what we consider a bargain buy and believe we got him under the radar. The breeder of this colt thought so much of him that the stud has stayed involved retaining a quarter share. I think as much as they do and Australian Thoroughbreds will be retaining a share in this colt as well. VOBIS & SABIS payed up this colt will be seeing some Victorian tracks.

David Hayes – Lindsay Park Racing

Encosta De Lago / Major Drama colt

Well with a pedigree like this it is very easy to see why we attacked this colt. Nice strong type, well conformed and walked like he was on air. Very close relation to Corinnas star filly ALINGHI. Colt with a great pedigree being trained by a trainer with a great pedigree and had the runs on the board with horses like this. Shares wont last long in this well priced yearling.

Michael Voss

Shinzig / Wavishing colt

Shinzig already putting some runs on the board early in his first 2yo season as a stallion. Out of an oaks winning mare that won from 1000->2100m and was a winner as a 2yo. Already being broken in this colt is being aimed at the early 2yo season. Being VOBIS payed up for dont be surprised seeing her skip over to the mainland for some juicy prize money.

Out Of The Fire salutes at Mornington

Australian Thoroughbreds syndicated gelding Out Of The Fire finally broke through for his maiden win on Friday the 9th December 2011. With THREE new shareholders joining the syndicate for the start of this preparation there are plenty of smiles. After a promising yet frustrating first preparation trainer John McArdle decided after a sizzling track gallop that no trial was needed and picked off a weak field and with a plum ride from Danny Nikolic got the money. After working a touch from the wide draw Nikolic sat outside the leader at a good clip and moved away in the straight to win drawing away easily accounting for the rest. He has pulled up well and his prep will be taken run by run. Look for him to be back at the races in a couple of weeks.

Australian Thoroughbreds would like to thank and congratulate all owners for your support. We hope to see you all in the winners circle again very soon! Also a big thanks for Redgum Racing and staff including track rider Rowan Waymouth and Brady McArdle for keeping a special eye on our bloke!

Morphetville Trials

Morphetville trials on the 11th April 2011, heat 2 seen the first of the Australian Thoroughbred syndicated horses ‘Grey Mustang’ step out to the trials for the first time and acquitted himself very well running a bold 2nd after having no gate speed. So impressed was trainer Richard Jolly he nominated the gelding for the 2yo race at Morphetville this saturday but will be opting for the option of Gawler 20th April giving him a better break from the trial. Good luck to owners, I will be on track cheering!
Heat 7 seen Sachse trial after a few minor set backs he hit the trial under Libby Hopwood settled last and hooked out drew to the line impressively for 4th. Trainer Peter Macdonald is very happy with Sachse now and we are currently setting a program for him. Will see him at the races again soon!
